Episode 1 of Kiken na Venus.

Hakuro and Kaede decide to ask Akito’s uncle, Makio, if he knows anything about Akito’s disappearance. But when they arrive at the scheduled meeting place, they find Makio lying on the ground, seriously injured from a fall. Kaede believes he must have been pushed and immediately sets off to find the culprit. But Hakuro finds her calmness and composure odd, and he begins to suspect that she is not really Akito’s wife.

Kaede is rushed to the emergency room after being pushed down a flight of stairs. When Hakuro visits her later at home, all she can remember is her assailant “smelled nice.” The next day, Kaede goes to the Yagami residence and hears that her father-in-law’s condition has deteriorated. Suspecting one of her relatives, she tries to identify her assailant by their smell. But it turns out to be her father-in-law’s nurse who exudes a familiar scent…

Hakuro learns that Shoko, Akito’s aunt, has disappeared after leaving behind a farewell note, just like Akito. Shoko’s daughter asks for Hakuro’s help in finding her, but initially he is unwilling to do so because Shoko treated his own mother so badly in the past. Eventually though his curiosity gets the best of him and he decides to search the room of Shoko’s husband’s. There he comes across something astonishing, but just then someone sneaks up behind him and clamps a hand over his mouth…

At the veterinary hospital where he works, Hakuro receives an anonymous letter saying that his stepfather, Yasuharu, is going to be murdered that night. He dismisses it as a prank, but Kaede believes someone is trying to warn him Yasuharu’s life is truly in danger. Together they visit the Yajima residence that evening to check on Yasuharu, and Hakuro opens up to Kaede about his complex feelings toward his stepfather. Then Kaeda proposes a plan to foil the intended murder.

Hakuro is shocked to learn his mother was murdered by one of her Yajima in-laws. Then Kaede reveals that her husband, Akito, had been on the verge of telling Hakuro the truth when he disappeared. Hakuro wonders why his younger brother didn’t confide in him earlier. Later, he becomes concerned when Kaede bluntly refuses to accompany him to the Yajima residence because she has other plans and stops responding to his calls and texts.

Together with Kaede, Hakuro goes to his mother’s family home to search for clues. There they learn that Akito visited the house several years earlier to see the spot where Hakuro and Akito’s mother, Teiko, was found dead. They also learn that shortly before Teiko died, Konosuke’s mistress, Sayo, also visited the house. Unable to find out anything about Sayo from the Yajimas, Hakuro and Kaede decide to track her down and speak to her themselves.

Hakuro learns that his stepfather, Yasuharu, kept a research notebook that is said to contain a secret more valuable than the Yajima family’s 3-billion-yen fortune. Moreover, the data in the missing notebook relates to Hakuro’s real father, Kazukiyo, who died of a brain tumor while under Yasuharu’s care—data that could lead to future groundbreaking medical discoveries…

Hakuro is confused about how his mother’s death, Akito’s disappearance, and Yasuharu’s missing notebook are all related. Then he learns that Kaede has betrayed him and joined forces with another member of the Yagami clan. He begins to doubt whether Kaede is really Akito’s wife and he pays a visit to her family home to find out the truth. Meanwhile, with Yasuharu at death’s door, the Yagamis convene a family meeting and decide to divvy up his inheritance among themselves unless Akito returns. Will Hakuro solve the mystery in time?

The Yagamis hold a family council. With Yasuharu now dead and Akito still missing, the other relatives decide to divide the estate among themselves. But Kaede says they can rescue Akito if they can just find Yasuharu’s research notebook. Meanwhile, Hakuro receives a message from Akito’s kidnapper telling him to hand over “something of great value” that belonged to his mother or else his half-brother will die. But what is it and how can Hakuro find it? And how did his mother really die? Who is the kidnapper and is Kaede really Akito’s wife?
