قرر جابر الهرب بعيدًا بعد ارتكابه جريمة قتل حيث اجتمعت به الصدفة برجل عائد إلى قريته لجمع أرث عائلته يدعى سليم وأثناء ذهابهما تعرضا لحادث نجى منها جابر وانتحل شخصية سليم للهروب من عواقب الماضي.

اتضح أن جابر قتل زوج شقيقته بسبب معامتله السيئة لها، اجتمع أهل القرية للترحيب بجابر ظننًا منهم أنه سليم حفيد عائلة العادل والي القرية.

عادت شهلا شقيقة سليم إلى القرية، فعلمت بوفاة شقيقها وانتحال جابر شخصيته، فقام جابر بتقييدها لمنع كشف أمره.
