In this nostalgic one-hour documentary, popular PBS host Huell Howser goes in search of the history of the RV in America. We start our adventure with David Woodworth, who is the preeminent collector of pre Second World War travel trailers, tent trailers, motor campers and just about anything having to do with early American camping. Next it’s off to a vintage trailer rally, where fifty trailers dating from 1935 to 1960 have assembled to spend a weekend showing off their pride and joys. The video is full of wonderful archival material from the era. Newsreels, company films, cartoons, film clips, home movies, personal photos and lots of great publicity material fill out this trip down memory lane. Whether you own an RV or just love American Pop culture, this film will satisfy the nostalgic in all of us.

Huell travels to the new Eastside Reservoir, four miles southwest of Hemet. Forced by increasing population and the need to reduce our toll on the Colorado River, the Metropolitan Water District undertook this project to protect us in the event of drought or earthquakes. One of the largest construction projects in American history, the new reservoir will be 4.5 miles long and 2 miles wide, instantly becoming Southern California’s largest lake.

Huell traces the Colorado River from Hoover Dam to Southern California and learns about the many people who depend on its water. California is only one of seven western states with interests in the river.

Huell finds a family in the Los Angeles area with a yard unlike any other. Devoted to California native plants, this family has truly created a wildlife habitat in the midst of urban sprawl.
