A hotel by the coast in Northern Portugal. It is morning, and the family that manages it starts their day. Unexpectedly, the matriarch, Sara, arrives with her granddaughter, Salomé, whose father has just died. Her arrival exposes the bitterness and regret from the life choices made by the various women in the family, and worsens the relationship between the grandmother and Salomé's mother, Piedade. During dinner, Camila informs Jaime of her desire to move out and live with another man. Sara is blamed by the family for the hotel's financial problems and its imminent bankruptcy.
