To kick off Caravan Of Garbage in 2026 we've decided to celebrate the release of Star Wars' 49th anniversary. We're talking the original movie as it was first shown in May of 1977 with none of the Special Edition tweaks or even the addition of the title A New Hope which was added four years later. We're looking at the miracle of the movie that started it all, George Lucas' vision brought to life with the music of John Williams, special effects by ILM and the relatively unknown trio of Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill. It's time to talk what many still consider the pinacle of Star Wars media, The Empire Strikes Back. Released three years after the first movie in 1980 it also came at a time when sequels were almost always inferior to the original. The anticipation for what was to be the final Star Wars film, Revenge/Return of the Jedi was at an absolute boiling point in 1983. What was to become of Han Solo? Would Luke Skywalker defeat Darth Vader and turn from the dark side? Will Princess Leia kill a giant peverted slug in a gold bikini? These questions and more were wrapped up at the end of the original trilogy which brings the Emperor of the Galaxy to the forefront of story now with a second and even bigger Death Star. It's time for another look at a movie about and featuring video games but not actually based on a video game. This time it's 2009's Gamer starring Gerard Butler, Logan Lerman, Michael C Hall and directed by Crank duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. Set in the far distant future of 2034 in a world where the game Slayers (an online third person shooter) uses real life death-row prisoners in a real life murder arena controlled by players safely at home. In a future bogged down in nostelgia to the detriment of a crumbling society it's up to a group of plucky internet savy individuals to unlock the mystery of the Oasis, a Virtual Reality space where your wildest dreams can come true. If your wildiest dreams are like, walking around and Batman is there or the Delorian or whatever. ALIENS ARE REAL. I mean, statistically the chances of there being life in an ever expanding universe is pretty much a lock. And to celebrate that and the return of Steven Spielberg to making an alien movie with Disclosure Day in 2026 we're going to take a look at three adaptations of the War of the Worlds, starting with the 1953 classic. Aliens continue to be real on our journey through three very distinct War of the Worlds adaptations. This week it's the second collaboration between Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise after Minority Report, War of the Worlds 2005. Interesting premise and time, post 9/11, Tom Cruise in his weirdest (publicially) era and a director who'd made two exceptional extra terrestrial propeties prior to this. This should be fantastic! All good things must come to an end, like for example our War of the Worlds retrospective. But at lease we're going out on the lowest of the lows, the 2025 but filmed in 2020 Ice Cube "screenlife" adaptation. Considered by many to be one of the worst movies ever made with such a bizarre and terrible execution it's kind of hard to stay focused on one thing at a time when talking about it. Cast your mind back to the year 2000. Okay great. And now think about the movie X-Men which introduced the world to the modern superhero movie with the likes of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, Patrick Stewarts a bald guy, Ian McKellen as Magnet and Halle Berry as a much underused Storm. And with the likes of James Marsden coming back as Cyclops for Avengers: Doomsday in 2026 this decades old Marvel franchise has never been more relevant. And then there's the Bryan Singer of it all. By 2003 superhero movies were well back in vogue. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man from 2002 had become a massive hit, a serious Batman reboot was in the works and of course we got the return of Bryan Singer's (yuck) X-Men franchise with X2: X-Men United. All your favourites are back! Storm, Cyclops, Ice Boy, Rogue, Magnet, Wheels, Gene Grey, all in support of whatever Hugh Jackman's Wolverine wants to do.

The only logical solution to wrap up our look at the original X-Men trilogy is a updated re-release of our Caravan Of Garbage review from 2019. Sure Bryan Singer is now gone (for now) but luckily Brett "The Rat" Ratner has stepped in to take his place to conclude the stories of Wolverine, Gene Grey, Professor X, Magnet, Storm, Cyclops and many more characters that would continue to never die and re-appear in future prequels and sequels.

Over the next four weeks we're taking a trip through some classic 1990's science fiction films. An interesting era which still encorporated old school film making techniques like model work, stop motion and rear projection plus early computer generated imagery. This week it's the action classic Total Recall starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone from director Paul Verhoeven not to be confused with the 2012 reboot or the book its based on that has a completely different name and premise.

Stallone, always on the hunt for the next action blockbuster, took a shot at sci-fi in 1993 with the release of Demolition Man. Set in the future of 1996 and then the future of 2032 it pits him against Wesley Snipes' Simon Phoenix having the absolute time of his life. And that's the whole movie real, just an absolute blast from the get go with somewhat accurate depictions of the future mixed in with absolute insanity like the three sea shells situation. It's absolutely bizarre that the first live action adaptation of Starship Troopers from director Paul Verhoeven bombed as badly as it did. Not only that but critics also seemed to have completely missed the not very subtle social commetary in relation to the rise of facism in western society. Now, for the most part I hope, people seem to know better and this movie is recognised for both its satirical nature and incredible action sequences. Its time to return to Earth-167! Which you would obviously know as the universe of Smallville, the smash hit ten season long Superman original series that managed to introduce EVERY. SINGLE. DC. CHARACTER. before Clark Kent decides to put on the suit. This time we're going to be covering the storyline of Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl as played by Laura Vandervoort introduced in Season 7. And we've discovered so much more about this show including how many character get clones or are clones (it's a lot which is exciting).

For our final look at Supergirl, we're returning to the DCEU. And also Earth 89, Earth 789, Earth 30, Earth 66, Earth 203, Earth 789, and a reboot. That's right, we're taking a look at The Flash (2023), which aimed to be both a love letter to and the end of the Zack Snyder DC Universe, while also serving as an introduction to James Gunn's DCU. All your favourites are back: Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck, George Clooney, and Adam West as Batman, along with Wonder Woman, Aquaman, a pretty solid interpretation of Supergirl from Sasha Calle, and Ezra Miller's The Flash, I guess, if you're into that kind of thing. And it's awful.

We continue our epic and cinamatic journey towards Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey by taking a look at a second inspiration behind his adaptation. This time it's Troy from 2004 from director Wolfgang Peterson. Loosely based on Homer's Iliad and the story of the Trojan War it pits (pun intended) Brad Pitt's Achilles against Eric Bana's Hector, Orlando Blooms Paris against Brendan Gleeson's Menelaus, a city of stupid people against a horse and a whole lot more. The time of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is upon us. And to cap off our look at three inspirations of his 2026 epic we're going back ten years to 2016's Gods of Egypt. Directed by Alex Proyas the mind behind both The Crow and Dark City adapts, in the loosest of terms, ancient Egyptian mythology with some of the whitest people in entertainment. Despite being released in 1988, Who Framed Roger Rabbit remains the pinnacle of blending 2D animation with live action photography. Set in Hollywood after World War II, it follows Detective Eddie Valiant as he unravels the murder mystery involving famed toon Roger Rabbit, his wife Jessica Rabbit, and the terrifying villain Judge Doom. It's also famous for bringing together, for the first time, Disney and Warner Bros. characters like Donald and Daffy Duck, plus Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny. Next week we'll look at a not as good live action/animation hybrid, and the week after that one of the worst to do it in the lead up to Coyote VS ACME. Looney Tunes: Back In Action has been much requested since we covered the original Space Jam in 2021. And in the lead up to Coyote vs. Acme in 2026 and in the spirit of blending live action with 2D animation here we are. And oh my goodness this he Brendan Fraser we love him! It also has Bugs Bunny and we love him also! And it's got spies which we also love and Batman which we love and running around which I guess we love and aliens which alright and a monkey crystal that turns people in to monkeys which wait maybe this movie isn't good? It's a very upsetting time for us all having to revisited Space Jam 2. I mean sure it stars four times champion NBA superstar LeBron James plus the Looney Tunes plus every IP Warner Brothers has ever had their sweaty hands on (Game of Thrones, The Matrix, Gremlins, Harry Potter, Clockwork Orange, IT, Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, The Joker, Rick & Morty, Mad Max etc). On the eve of a brand new Resident Evil movie from director Zack Cregger we aim to achieve something heroes only dream of, taking a look at all six movies from the original series. Beginning with Resident Evil from 2002 it introduces us to a world seperate from that of the video games lead by Alice (Milla Jovovich) and directed by Paul WS Anderson whom would return for later entries in the franchise. We are off and running with our look at the six Resident Evil movies! Well the six starring Milla Jovovich as Alice and either produced or directed by Paul WS Anderson. Second up is Resident Evil: Apocalypse the entry that is most closely tied and based on a specific video game from the series. Jill Valentine joins the team and we get the introduction of Nemesis, a big gross mutant guy with a secret past I'm not sure the movie even tries to keep secret. The end of this third entry in the franchise officially marks the halfway point of our look at the six Milla Jovovich/Paul WS Anderson Resident Evil movies. And it might just be the highpoint of the series. Undead crows, dried out beef jerky desert zombies, a Mad Max setting plus the inclusion of both Claire Redfield and Albert Wesker, essential video game characters! Oh no it looks as if the Resident Evil movies might be on the decline after the incredible (by Resident Evil movie standards) third entry. Paul WS Anderson finally returns as director for Afterlife, a movie that takes some elements from the previous movies (Alice clones, the character of Kmart, not being able to remember your memories) and hits the ground running in what many are describing as a movie they might have seen around the time it came out but it's actually impossible to say. We've been looking at the Paul WS Anderson/Milla Jovovich Resident Evil movies for what feels like one hundred million years. And it's a crying shame that all of us are coming to realise that these movies might not actually be good. In addition to Alice coming back as always we also get the return of Michelle Rodriguez, Colin Salmon and Oded Fehr characters confirmed long dead. PLUS the introduction of more beloved game characters Leon S. Kennedy and Ada Wong! All this feels like it should add up to something but we're sorry to report that is not the case. Our long and winding tour down the Resident Evil road is coming to an end with The Final Chapter. Time to say goodbye to Milla Jovovich's Alice and the one or two other characters that they bothered to bring back in this sixth entry. The stakes have never been higher! The clock is ticking on the 27 people left on planet earth to release an anti-virus which would stop all the Resident Evil in its tracks. And there's secrets to be revealled! It's impossible to list all the visual design elements, tropes and world building influence that Blade Runner had on popular culture upon its initial release in 1982. Despite bombing in a most spectacular fashion, Ridley Scott managed to literally redefine the future of sci fi despite the atrocious Harrison Ford/Rick Deckard voice over. Here we look at the definitive version from 2007 that restores original scenes, removes others, including said voice over, and changes the ending in a manner that completely alters the meaning of the entire film. In between Blade Runner, original Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 there exists a movie positioned snugly in the middle, set in Ridley Scott's groundbreaking universe. 1998's Soldier, starring Kurt Russell and directed by Paul WS Anderson, was written by Blade Runner scribe David Webb Peoples and incorporates many elements from the 1982 original directed by Ridley Scott. It's mostly small visual cues and blink and you miss it easter eggs, but this is unmistakably supposed to take place after the origins events from 2019. None of it makes the movie better. There are very few legacy sequels that match or potentially surpass the original, often they end up being tired retreads of what came before. Blade Runner 2049 is one of those few exceptions, coming 35 years later and helmed by Denis Villeneuve it reintroduces us to the ruined future with updated elements like more compliant Replicants, AI girlfriends, horrendous poverty and Harrison Ford in a t-shirt. It also has Ryan Gosling as K doing his own version of Blade Running around with hologram Ana De Armas. Incredible movie. Thanks for watching our Caravan Of Garbage review

1994 gave us two video game to movie adaptations of Street Fighter, Street Fighter starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, which, although fondly remembered now, was much maligned at the time for being cheesy and inaccurate, and the anime adaptation Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie. The second of which adheres much closer to the video games and managed to turn a tidy profit despite a limited release. It's famous for brutal fight scenes, a wide character roster and a completely out of nowhere Chun-Li nude shower sequence. Thanks for watching our Caravan Of Garbage review!

You can blame the MCU for giving the good people over at Street Fighter HQ the idea that they could make a series of prequels leading up to an actual Street Fighter movie. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li from 2009 tells the origin of Chun-Li, as played by Kristin Kreuk, as she takes on the villainous Shadaloo, headed up by the always Irish M. Bison. Hilarious and baffling movie all round, with an incredible performance by Chris Klein and the inclusion of some of your favourite characters, like Balrog and Vega, handled completely wrong. After a brisk one-year wait, The Maze Runner returned with its second entry, The Scorch Trials. And it's shocking to some, but not others, the huge drop in quality in terms of narrative. The boys from the maze are dumped into a wider world of baffling conspiracies and various encampments as they hunt for... a cure for the newly revealed zombie virus, or safety, or maybe the answers to another mystery I've already forgotten.
