Maisie has had enough after 19 years being married to Bert. She longs for more money, independence, and being able to watch Dynasty without him eating crisps all the way through it. Bert, meanwhile, is more interested in his C.B. radio.

There's tension as Bert is struggling to come to terms with not only separating from his wife, but separation from most of the furniture. But while Maisie is enjoying her newfound freedom, Rita is determined for her to meet a new man.

Bert is distraught when the morning post arrives and no one has sent him a card for his birthday. But as his day gets even worse and he goes missing, is there a sign that Maisie still has affection for him?

Learning their daughter is pregnant, it seems like reconciliation may be possible for Maisie and Bert. Yet when Bert accidentally embarrasses himself at a church jumble sale, Maisie puts the house on the market, unable to bear the shame.

Maisie and Bert's daughter Susan (Michelle Holmes) is back home after making a surprise visit to Birmingham. But what will Susan make of her parents' new living arrangements, including a dividing wall in the middle of the house?
