Seasickness continues to strike mercilessly, and ship’s cook Lynn is also having a tough time of it. Still, a meal has to be put on the table. When an impressive wahoo is finally caught, the tide seems to be turning. Until the captain suddenly falls ill.

The Lunous reaches the mysterious Doldrums as threatening squalls approach. Steven keeps the crew on their toes with drills and an unexpected evacuation, but is himself struggling with homesickness in the middle of the ocean.

After eight days at sea, the Lunous reaches a mythical boundary: the equator. Helmswoman Katrien steers the boat into the southern hemisphere, but no one simply crosses the equator. To do so, you need Neptune’s permission.

Halfway through the crossing, sleep deprivation, isolation and homesickness begin to take their toll. Scientist Timon is investigating, on behalf of the European Space Agency, how this is affecting the crew. And then Friday the 13th adds extra tension on board.

After more than 2,000 nautical miles, the crossing is taking its toll. A hatch breaks and the mainsail tears. Pierre emerges as the cook, handyman and pillar of strength for the crew, who surprise him with their appreciation on his 40th birthday.

Rio and the carnival finally seem within reach. But just before they arrive, the ocean strikes one last time: the furling system fails, the sail tears, and the final leg becomes a race against the clock.

Half a year after arriving in Rio, the crew reunites in Nieuwpoort to set sail once more. They set course for… Rio!
