Lauren and Ned’s perfect Adelaide life shatters when tragedy forces them back to Darwin to care for their orphaned niece, Taya.

Lauren and Ned struggle as new parents while Lauren wonders who Taya’s biological father is – and if she should contact him.

Taya gets into trouble at school, revealing Ned and Lauren's very different views on parenting as they struggle to find a middle ground between being ‘Good Cop’ and ‘Bad Cop’.

Taya’s birthday turns to chaos with the arrival of Ned’s high maintenance mother, while Lauren secretly discovers who Taya’s father is.

Lauren pulls a sickie to find Taya’s dad on the Tiwi Islands, while Ned, Taya and Trevor help Leroy save the local footy fundraiser.

Ned feels betrayed after finding out about Lauren's search for Taya’s biological father and seeks comfort at Leroy’s.

With Ned at Leroy’s, he and Lauren have never felt more distant. Taya struggles without him and although neither of them wish to admit it, both Ned and Lauren struggle too.

A cyclone hits and Lauren and Ned reconnect worrying about Taya. They head to the Tiwi Islands in search of Taya, where a new surprise awaits.
