Episode 1 Aflevering 1

In 1945, Soviet intelligence receives alarming information that Japan is preparing to use biological weapons against the USSR, weapons being developed by the secret Unit 731. Major Mamaev of SMERSH assembles a special task force to locate the facility and thwart the enemy’s plans. The team is joined by virologist Anastasia Chernova, whose expertise is crucial to understanding the threat they face. At the same time, in 2022, Russian special forces seize a laboratory where dangerous research is being conducted. Among the documents recovered are references to Unit 731 archives that were captured after World War II.

Episode 2 Aflevering 2

Mamayev’s group advances toward the suspected location of the base. Along the way, the soldiers encounter not only Japanese patrols but also the consequences of the experiments: outbreaks of disease are reported in villages, though their causes are initially unclear. Anastasia attempts to interpret these developments from a scientific perspective and urges the commander not to underestimate the threat. In the present-day storyline, the investigation into the recovered documents becomes more complicated. It becomes clear that part of the archives was removed and later put to use, with the chain of technology transfer stretching across decades. The 2022 storyline begins to serve as a commentary on the events of 1945, showing viewers how old developments are given a “second life” under new circumstances.

Episode 3 Aflevering 3

The reconnaissance team picks up the trail of the main Unit 731 complex. It is here that the first direct evidence of the true scale of the atrocities comes to light: the soldiers discover mass burial sites and documents in which the victims are referred to impersonally as "material." For Anastasia, these findings become a personal test. She must maintain her composure in order to help the team determine exactly which strains may have been developed there. In the present day, researchers discover that some of the methods and approaches described in old archives are being reproduced almost verbatim in modern protocols. The connection between the two eras becomes increasingly tangible: these are no longer mere references, but direct borrowings.

Episode 4 Aflevering 4

Mamayev's team decides to take a risk and infiltrate the base by posing as an escort detail for a cargo shipment, their only chance to get inside the heavily guarded perimeter. The operation quickly goes off the rails when one of the soldiers draws the attention of the guards, triggering a firefight. Amid the chaos, Anastasia manages to copy part of the documentation and secure samples that could help confirm the threat. In 2022, the team working with the archives identifies individuals connected to the continuation of the research. The situation becomes increasingly dangerous, as other parties are also pursuing the same materials. Both timelines demonstrate that knowledge of the threat can itself become a weapon, while at the same time making those who possess it a target.

Episode 5 Aflevering 5

After breaking into the base, Mamayev's team is forced to retreat under heavy fire. During the withdrawal, they lose one of their own, strengthening their resolve to see the mission through to the end. Anastasia insists that the priority is not only to destroy the facility but also to gather evidence so that the world can learn the true scale of the atrocities committed there. In the present day, the investigation reaches a critical juncture: the team must decide whether to make the information public or attempt to stop the ongoing research without attracting unwanted attention. Both sides of the conflict come to realize that if the truth is revealed, the consequences will extend far beyond a single laboratory.

Episode 6 Aflevering 6

Mamaev and his team return to headquarters with the materials they have gathered. The command realizes that the threat is real and requires immediate action. At that moment, intelligence arrives that the Japanese are planning to evacuate key scientists and destroy all remaining evidence. The group is assigned a new mission: prevent their escape and preserve at least some of the data. In the present-day storyline, the team faces an act of sabotage. Someone is deliberately deleting digital copies of documents and attempting to disable their equipment. It becomes clear that there are interested parties who do not want the truth about the continuity of these research programs to come to light.

Episode 7 Aflevering 7

Mamayev’s group enters a final confrontation to prevent the enemy from destroying the evidence and evacuating the scientists. During the battle, the characters’ personal motivations come to light: some fight for their comrades, while others do so to ensure that future generations never have to face the same nightmare. At a critical moment, Anastasia acts not as a scientist, but as a fighter, realizing that if the threat is not stopped now, the cost will be far too high. In the present day, the team manages to preserve part of the data and pass it on through the proper channels, despite pressure and repeated attempts to obstruct the investigation.

Episode 8 Aflevering 8

In 1945, the operation reaches its conclusion: key documents are secured, some of the scientists are captured, and plans to deploy biological weapons are successfully thwarted. However, the victory comes at a steep cost, as not everyone from Mamayev’s group makes it back alive. Anastasia realizes that even the evidence they have gathered does not guarantee that these crimes will be properly condemned or remembered. The modern-day storyline ends on a somber note: the data has been delivered, but the struggle to preserve historical memory continues.
