Forty Hits of 1976 at the BBC Серия 17

A strong contender for the title of 'weirdest year in pop', 1976 marked the birth of The Sex Pistols and saw hits from the likes of Thin Lizzy, Joan Armatrading, Dolly Parton and Wings, and had John Miles celebrating music of both the future and the past. And yet, the year's biggest-selling single was Brotherhood of Man's Eurovision-winning Kisses for Me, and the cider-loving Wurzels somehow managed to plough their way to the top of the charts. This collection captures all those musical highs and lows, alongside performances from Elton John and Kiki Dee, Cliff Richard and The Rolling Stones, as well as a special double dose of the 1970s' very own 'fab four' - ABBA.

With Wham! wrapping things up, artists such as George Michael, Simply Red, Samantha Fox and Jermaine Stewart found success, while the synth sounds of bands like the Pet Shop Boys, A-ha, Eurythmics and Erasure were everywhere. But the charts still had plenty of room for lots more, including a musical bar of soap from Nick Berry with Every Loser Wins and plenty of Eurotrash in the form of Falco, Nana Mouskouri and even the band called Europe, blasting out their Final Countdown.
