At Aldminster Cathedral a crisis is looming.

The cathedral repairs will cost £ 1.5 million. The Dean suggests the council take financial responsibility for the choir.

The Dean makes clear his negative feelings about the choir; Sally is finding it difficult to conceal her affair with Henry from her estranged husband.

The choir's continued existence rests on the fortunes of Henry's record.

Henry's record is a hit; Frank finds himself outmanoeuvred; the headmaster's house is still to be sold; Alan Ashworth 's return is imminent.
