Since the 1960s, the small university New College has been considered a progressive oasis in Florida. But that will change in early 2023: conservative Governor DeSantis appoints a new board of trustees, led by a well-known anti-woke activist. The changes are not isolated. Since the Supreme Court struck down the federal right to abortion, the subject has returned as an election issue. Governor DeSantis of Florida wants to ban abortion after six weeks of pregnancy, and doctors who participate in an unauthorized procedure are at risk of prosecution. Anya and Derek Cook experienced the new policy firsthand and are now collecting signatures for a referendum to restore the right to abortion. The owner of Hamburger Mary's, a restaurant famous for its drag queen shows, also does not accept the governor's conservative agenda: he takes him to court.
