Brooklyn Brewery 1. bölüm

Sen

In our inaugural episode of our new series Craftwerk, we meet the people behind Brooklyn Brewery. Steve Hindy, the founder and chairman, fell in love with homebrewing during his time in the Middle East as a war correspondent, and Garrett Oliver, the brewmaster, discovered his passion while he was a rock band manager in London. While Steve and Garrett got into beer in unconventional ways (a common theme in the world of brewing), the two were clearly meant for this craft. Brooklyn Brewery has been a major player in revitalizing the craft beer movement in New York City and around the world.

Preparing for Squashtober Season with Newburgh 5. bölüm

Sen

In June 2012, Chris Basso and Paul Halayko decided to transform a 5,000-square-foot old 1860 factory in Newburgh, NY into a place where people could gather with family and friends to play, eat, and most importantly, drink great beer. We were lucky enough to have brewmaster Chris and president Paul invite us into this old renovated factory to see the inner workings of Newburgh Brewing Company. While showing us around, Chris demonstrates how he makes Newburgh's October seasonal beer, Squashtober. In order to get that great fresh pumpkin taste, Chris takes local pumpkins, roasts them for four hours, and brews the pumpkin puree right into the beer. With the start of canning, Chris and Paul are hoping to share their beer throughout all of New York as well as most of the East Coast.

Denver's Black Metal Brewery with TRVE Brewing Company 6. bölüm

Sen

There are many breweries in Colorado, but only one craft brewery made for and by metalheads: TRVE Brewing Company. When Nick Nunns and Zach Coleman aren't playing and listening to metal, they're hard at work making beer at their Denvery brewery. Nick and Zach decided to take a different approach in their brewing; instead of concentrating on what the consumer wants, they brew the beer that they wanna brew—and hopefully others like it, too. While most craft breweries focus on heavy, full-bodied, high-ABV beers, TRVE aims to get full-flavor beers with a lower alcohol content, for good session beers that you can drink without getting totally wrecked.

Rick Astley Brews Beer in Belgium with Mikkeller 7. bölüm

Sen

Mikkel Borg Bjergsø is the man behind the world-renowned brewery Mikkeller, which revolutionized the craft beer game in Denmark and now runs bars and restaurants around the world. Mikkeller doesn’t have a permanent brewing facility, but makes most of its beer at a high-tech plant in Belgium. In this episode of Craftwerk, we travel with Mikkel to Belgium where he gets to brew a beer with his childhood pop idol: Rick Astley. Mikkel takes Rick for a lesson in Belgian beer traditions at one of Brussel’s legendary bars, before they head to the brewery to make the beer for Rick’s upcoming tour: a red lager with a hint of ginger. Mikkel also pays a visit to the town of Lembeek and the “godfather of lambic”, Frank Boon, who is one of the most respected brewers within this style of spontaneously fermented beer. Just watching all the beer sampled in this episode is enough to get you slightly tipsy.

The Freeze-Dried Craft Beer of the Future with To Øl 11. bölüm

Sen

In this episode of Craftwerk we meet Tobias and Tore, two high school friends from Nørrebro in Copenhagen, who run the brewery To Øl ('two beers'). We join them at the opening of their new brewpub and restaurant, Brus, where they hand out thousands of free beer at the launch party. The boys also take us on a tour of their old school, the bohemian “free” high school in Copenhagen, where they started out as teenagers brewing beers in the school cafeteria. Back in their old stomping grounds, they introduce us to one of their latest experiments - instant craft beer - where you take freeze-dried beer powder and mix it with mineral water and booze. Perhaps its invention that could change in-flight drinking in the future. Who knows. In the To Øl craft beer universe, the sky’s the limit.

Craft Brewing in the Alaskan Wilderness with 49th State Brewing Company 12. bölüm

Sen

Facing -40°F winters and tourist-packed summers, 49th State Brewing Company has emerged as a craft beer destination in the heart of the Alaskan wilderness. Owners David McCarthy and Jason Motyka are passionate about two things: following your dreams and beer -- or rather damn good beer. Set against the backdrop of Denali National Park, 49th State Brewery offers Alaskan-inspired beers, like Prospector’s Gold, Baked Blonde Ale, and Belgian Double On Tundra, brewed with glacial water and single-use yeast. However, despite winning a Great American Beer Festival gold medal for their Smoked Märzen in 2015, you won’t find these beers on shelves in the lower 48, which is all the more reason to make the pilgrimage to the last frontier and taste these beers fresh from the source.
